The information management in the production process of the aircraft produce and developer was, other than the design and planning part of the business, still mostly paper based and had evolved over time in a process landscape with limited standardisation.
The paper-based aspects of the production process made it very time-consuming to search and update work processes, made it more difficult to verify if the building of the plane is done according to plan and the plane as-built is as-designed, and real-time feedback on ongoing and assigned operations on the shop-floor. This led to needless delays and waste, and in a worst case scenario, may have led to discrepancies in the as-designed and as-built quality of the end-product.
Under our auspices the client was able to develop a digital, employee-friendly representation of the production order (documents, procedure, additional information) in a responsive Mendix application.
The minimum viable product (MVP) and the application that was implemented on the shop-floor successfully delivered on the initial goals/objectives of the project:
- Digital real-time feedback of the work done;
- Reduction of paper used per job;
- Unique employee identification;
- Digital recording of a quality message.
Currently, the client has an active team with business engineers and developers who are working in an Agile way. The regularly update the Digital Workorder application to fit the manufacturing and assembly processes on the shop-floor of the factory.
